THE STORY

From the Hôtel de Ville to the lakeside

Illnora and Genc got married at Neuchâtel town hall. I was with them in the wood-panelled room of the Hôtel de Ville, then on the steps, where their loved ones were waiting. We then walked down to the lake, to Quai Osterwald, for a quieter moment, just the two of them. And to finish, Genc had brought the champagne.

The civil ceremony at the Hôtel de Ville

There is something warm about this room, with its wood panelling and the light from its tall windows. Loved ones sit very close to the couple. I keep discreet and follow each moment: the rings, the signature, the first kiss. For the paperwork, the City of Neuchâtel explains everything on its website.

The exit on the steps

Outside, everyone was waiting for them on the steps of the Hôtel de Ville. There were streamers, hugs, a big group photo, and Genc, who had thought of the champagne. It's the moment when the formality fades and everyone comes to hug the newlyweds.

Quai Osterwald is a few minutes' walk away. You stroll there under tall trees, with the lake right beside you and a very soft light. Illnora and Genc walked, danced a little, then opened the champagne, laughing.
